Frequently asked questions.

IS ABUNDANT PASTURES CERTIFIED ORGANIC?

No, we feel that building an open relationship with our customers about what we feed our pasture raised animals and how those animals are raised far exceeds what can be done with a label. All of our pasture raised poultry are fed a Non-GMO feed ration as well as all the grass and bugs that they can find. Our cattle and sheep only consume grass that has not been sprayed with any chemical fertilizer, pesticides, fungicides or herbicides. We strongly encourage you to reach out to us through email, Facebook, or Instagram with your questions, concerns, and what things you value about how your food is raised.

Do you feed antibiotics?

No. There will never be a product on this website that was fed antibiotics. Our experience has been that with proper management antibiotics are not necessary. When we move our animals, they leave the manure from the day before behind to feed the soil. This provides them with a clean sanitary area of pasture to scratch in, graze and plenty of fresh air; the animals stay healthy.

What does Pasture Raised mean?

Pasture raised means that all our animals spend as much of their lives as possible on our pastures. We receive day old chicks on our farm and brood them indoors on a bed of wood shavings for about three weeks until they have the feathers necessary to live outside full time. At that time the chickens are moved onto pasture where they live in portable, open floor hoop house. The house is portable so that they can be moved daily to a fresh area. The open floor gives chickens access to scratching the ground and chasing bugs. The turkeys come to the farm as day old poults and spend approximately eight weeks in a brooder on a bed of wood shavings until they have the feathers necessary to live outside full time. They are then moved to a fenced area on the pasture and follow behind the sheep consuming their non - GMO feed, bugs, and grass.

Our cattle and sheep spend the growing season out on pasture where they are regularly moved to fresh grass. During the winter months they are housed in a barn on a deep bedding of straw and fed hay that was made and stored during the growing season.
